Amtrak to resume some service in the Northeast

(AP) ? Amtrak says it will resume some service in the Northeast on Wednesday, but flooded train tunnels continue to prevent service to and from New York's Penn Station.

The railroad said late Tuesday that modified service between Newark, N.J., and points south will resume on Wednesday. That includes restoring Virginia service to Lynchburg, Richmond and Newport News, Keystone trains in Pennsylvania and Downeaster service between Boston and Portland, Maine.

However, Amtrak said in a statement that the amount of water in train tunnels under the Hudson and East rivers is unprecedented, preventing service to New York. There will be no Northeast Regional service between New York and Boston and no Acela Express service for the entire length of the Northeast Corridor. No date has been set for resumption of service.

Free foods have less than 20 calories and 5 grams of carbohydrate per serving. Find out how to use these low-calorie and low-carb foods as healthy diabetic snacks to get you through between-meal cravings or add flavor to dishes.

Free Foods for People with Diabetes
When you have the munchies but no calories or carbohydrate grams to spare, get your fix with a free-food snack. A free food, as defined by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), is any food, drink, condiment, or seasoning that contains less than 20 calories and 5 grams or less of carb per serving.

ADA guidelines suggest you can eat up to three free-food servings per day without counting them in your diabetes meal plan. Do spread them out through the day. The small amount of carb they contain should have little impact on your blood glucose.

Before eating free foods, keep in mind that:

? Eating three free-food snacks with about 20 calories each adds up to 60 extra calories, which could ultimately impact your waistline and efforts to lose weight if you include free foods every day.

? Free foods, other than small amounts of some fruits and vegetables, contain few to no calories and minimal to no nutrition.

? If chosen wisely, free-food snacks can enhance the flavor of nutritious foods while adding minimal calories.

The following slides give you free-food snack ideas to keep your stomach satisfied without ramping up your blood sugar?.

Video game with biofeedback teaches children to curb their anger

ScienceDaily (Oct. 24, 2012) ? Children with serious anger problems can be helped by a simple video game that hones their ability to regulate their emotions, finds a pilot study at Boston Children's Hospital. Results were published online October 24 in the journal Adolescent Psychiatry.

Noticing that children with anger control problems are often uninterested in psychotherapy, but very eager to play video games, Jason Kahn, PhD, and Joseph Gonzalez-Heydrich, MD, at Boston Children's Hospital developed "RAGE Control" to motivate children to practice emotional control skills that they can later use in challenging life situations.

The fast-paced game involves shooting at enemy spaceships while avoiding shooting at friendly ones. As children play, a monitor on one finger tracks their heart rate and displays it on the computer screen. When heart rate goes above a certain level, players lose their ability to shoot at the enemy spaceships. To improve their game, they must learn to keep calm.

"The connections between the brain's executive control centers and emotional centers are weak in people with severe anger problems," explains Gonzalez-Heydrich, chief of Psychopharmacology at Boston Children's and senior investigator on the study. "However, to succeed at RAGE Control, players have to learn to use these centers at the same time to score points."

The study, led by first author Peter Ducharme, MSW, a clinical social worker at Boston Children's, compared two groups of 9- to 17-year-old children admitted to the hospital's Psychiatry Inpatient Service who had high levels of anger. To qualify for the study, the children had to have a normal IQ and not need a medication change during the five-day study period.

One group, with 19 children, received standard treatments for anger including cognitive-behavioral therapy, presentation of relaxation techniques and social skills training for five consecutive business days. The second group, with 18 children, got these same treatments, but spent the last 15 minutes of their psychotherapy session playing RAGE Control.

After five sessions, the video gamers were significantly better at keeping their heart rate down. They showed clinically significant decreases in anger scores on the State Trait Anger Expression Inventory-Child and Adolescent (STAXI-CA), and specifically on:

  • the intensity of anger at a particular time
  • the frequency of angry feelings over time
  • expression of anger towards others or objects.

The gamers also had a decrease in suppressed, internalized anger that reached marginal statistical significance. In contrast, the standard-treatment group showed no significant change from baseline on any of the above measures.

The video gamers gave their therapy experience high marks for helpfulness (5 to 6 on a scale of 7). "Kids reported feeling better control of their emotions when encountering day to day frustrations on the unit," says Ducharme. "While this was a pilot study, and we weren't able to follow the kids after they were discharged, we think the game will help them control their emotions in other environments."

More studies in progress

The investigators are now conducting a randomized, controlled clinical trial of RAGE Control in the outpatient clinic at Boston Children's that adds a cooperative component. The children team up with a parent for 10 game sessions at the clinic; if either the parent's or the child's heart rate goes up, neither of them can shoot, forcing them to help calm each other. (Click here for more information.)

The research team plans another clinical trial to test whether letting children take RAGE Control home, to play with parents and siblings, will increase its effect.

In addition, Kahn is spearheading a team effort to develop toys to enhance emotional regulation skills in children too young for RAGE Control. These toys include racing cars that stop if a child gets too excited and, for even younger children, a cooperative game where children try to help each other stack blocks (if heart rate goes up, the table becomes wobbly and the blocks topple).

Assange says to stay in embassy until U.S. backs off: CNN

LONDON (Reuters) - Wikileaks' founder Julian Assange said on Thursday the United States would have to give up its "immoral" investigation into his whistle blowing website before he considered leaving the confines of the Ecuadorean embassy in London.

Assange has been sheltering in the embassy since June to avoid extradition to Sweden to face rape and sexual assault allegations. Britain says it is obliged to send him to Sweden and will not let him to go to Ecuador, which has given him asylum.

His lawyers and the Ecuador government fear that travelling to Sweden could lead to the 41-year-old Australian's extradition to the United States, where he could face charges stemming from Wikileaks' publication of thousands of U.S. diplomatic cables.

Challenged in a CNN interview in the embassy that he could not stay there forever, Assange said:

"I think we need the U.S. government to drop its investigation ... It's an immoral investigation. It breaches the First Amendment. It breaches all the principles that the United States government says that it stands for and it absolutely breaches the principles that the U.S. founding fathers stood for and which most of the U.S. people believe in."

Ecuador wants Britain to give Assange written guarantees that he would not be extradited from Sweden to any third country. Assange fears he could face inhumane treatment in the United States.

"There's an attempt to extradite me without charge and without evidence, allegedly for the purpose of questioning," he said. "All meanwhile, the FBI has been engaged in building this tremendous case."

In the interview, Assange likened life in the embassy to "living on a space station".

"There's no natural light," he said. "You have got to make all your own stuff. You can't go out to the shops."

"But I've been in solitary confinement. I know what life is like for prisoners - it's a lot better than it is for prisoners."

Earlier on Thursday, Wikileaks began publishing what it said were more than 100 U.S. Defense Department files detailing military detention policies in camps in Iraq and at Guantanamo Bay in the years after the September 11 attacks on U.S. targets.

General Motors insourcing: One off or trend? - Inside Outsourcing

One of the big stories recently concerning outsourcing IT is one about doing the opposite. GM is in the process of insourcing its currently heavily outsourced IT.

The plot gets even thicker when you look at GM's outsourcing CV. It is the company that basically created EDS. GM originally bought EDS as its internal IT department before spinning it out as a separate company. It continued to buy services from EDS. Then EDS was acquired by HP and now, a few years down the line, GM is bringing almost everything in-house.

GM has already recruited 3000 workers from HP to help the transition.

So GM is a bit of a pioneer when it comes to IT outsourcing. But is GM's pioneering insourcing going to be copied by others?

I am working on an article about this so thought I would ask people whether they thought insourcing would become a trend. Below is a sample of some of the responses so far. Please tell me what you think.

Mark Lewis, head of outsourcing at law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner, says GM's decision will not be repeated across the industry.

He said there are broadly three drivers for a move to insource: Suppliers messing up, short tern tactical needs, and strategic goals.

He said if suppliers mess up or things like offshoring models aren't working businesses can pull back work out of necessity. They could also pull work in-house for tactical reasons, for example in the interim if they wanted to change suppliers and there may be a more strategic reasons such as it wants to focus its IT attention on developing systems specific for its business.

He said he would be surprised if any company in-sourced things like back office work.
Douglas Hayward, analyst at IDC, says the pendulum is swinging towards insourcing but only marginally

"GM insourcing is not a one off but won't be a trend. Only some large organisations can do it."

He says big businesses can create opportunities for themselves through IT, which they would not get from suppliers. This is because suppliers rarely go beyond what they are contracted to do. "We have not reached the stage where supplier services are fully trusted to be on time, to budget with creativity and proactivity.

He said insourcing might become more common if suppliers change their attitudes and become more proactive and business orientated.

Give me your views.

U.S. to study cancer risks near 6 nuclear plants

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced plans Tuesday to launch a pilot epidemiological study of cancer risks near six nuclear power plants, including San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in north San Diego County.

The commission is acting out of growing concern that using uranium to produce electricity may be dangerous even without accidents at nuclear plants. In addition, recent epidemiological studies in Germany and France suggest that the children living near nuclear reactors are twice as likely to develop leukemia.

The U.S. study will be conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, which will also help the commission determine whether to extend the study to all 65 U.S. nuclear power plants and certain nuclear fuel sites.

The pilot study will investigate cancer rates in each census tract within a 30-mile radius of the nuclear facilities, and assess cancers in children younger than 15 whose mothers lived near a nuclear facility during pregnancy. About 1 million people live within five miles of operating nuclear plants in the United States, and more than 45 million live within 30 miles, nuclear regulatory officials said.

The study will cost about $2 million and is to begin later this year, with the results available in 2014, commission spokesman Scott Burnell said. Before beginning, researchers will meet with communities near the plants to explain how the study will be conducted, Burnell said.

The academy chose sites that provide a broad representation of engineering designs and operating histories in states that have a variety of data retrieval systems in cancer registries.

The study area around the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, which has been out of commission since January because of equipment problems, encompasses 2.4 million people in more than 50 cities, including Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Tustin, Lake Elsinore, Temecula, Oceanside, Escondido, Solana Beach and Camp Pendleton.

The last time officials assessed cancer rates near nuclear power plants was in 1990. The National Cancer Institute studied cancer risks posed by the 104 licensed reactors the commission governed at that time. The study concluded that the health risks, if any, were too small to be measured.

The commission has been relying on the results of that study ever since to inform the public about cancer mortality rates near nuclear reactors.

"I'm very pleased about this pilot study," said Roger Johnson, a retired neuroscience professor and member of the nonprofit environmental group San Clemente Green, which has raised safety and health concerns about San Onofre.

"Most people are focused on accidents at nuclear power plants," Johnson said. "They don't realize that they store tons of radioactive material and emit low levels of radioactive waste into the atmosphere."

The Thredbo Mountain Bike Boom Begins. | Thredbo ...

The Thredbo Mountain Bike Boom Begins.

Mountain Biking in Thredbo has just turned the corner. Until now the resort operator Kosciusko Thredbo (KT), ?has only had an?arms-length?involvement with mountain biking, providing the chairlift access and direction on where and how people can ride on the mountain. ?The actual daily operation and much of the trail?development?has been left to?independent?operators like South East Mountain Biking and before them Raw NRG. ?These operators have done some great things with the sport in Thredbo but they have never had the resources or the capacity to take the trail development to the next level. ? That all changed this week when ?KT officially took over the operation of Mountain Bike activities in the resort and they have big plans. ?Operating as Thredbo MTB ?they have already engaged ?a world renowned Mountain Bike trail builder, ??World Trails? to produce ?a Mountain Bike Concept ?plan for the resort ?that will see the ?trail network expand dramatically ?in the coming years. ? ? This summer we will see the first wave of this new trail?development?with the opening of ?a brand new ??Flow? track. ?The Flow track will make it ? possible for any competent mountain biker to ride the Chairlift and enjoy downhill riding on the mountain without having to face some of the more technical challenges that have kept the experts coming back.

The good news is that South East Mountain Biking?s Dynamic Duo Tim Windshuttle and Danny Taliana ?are back to run the Mountain Operations for ?Thredbo MTB to ensure that the new venture gets off to a great start. ?Thredbo MTB already has the following ?events locked in for the coming season:

  1. ?Round #5 ?of the NSW State Championships; 17th & 18th Nov
  2. Round #2 National MTB Series Championships; 8th ? 10th Feb 2013
  3. Australian MTB Interschool?s; 15th ? 17th Mar 2013

With the Mountain Bike season due to open in Thredbo on the 17th of November ?we should have more information on ticketing for Mountain Bike chairlift passes and other details soon. In?the meantime we also have 3 new new tracks open for the coming summer season to give recreational and cross country riders more options.

  1. Great progress has been made on the?The Thredbo Valley Track?with a section?from Thredbo down the river for about 4 km?s ?due to open in Mid November. This brand new track will ?offer easy grade riding ?with some spectacular bridges over the Thredbo River making this a ride for everyone.
  2. A new ?Pump? Track ?has been built at the bike crazy, Lake Crackenback ?to add to their already extensive cross country network. ?Only 15 minutes drive from Thredbo this is a great place for a morning or afternoon ride.
  3. A new section of track has just opened ?from Jindabyne to the Dam wall that now completes a?continuous?track from Jindabyne right around the dam wall and the lake to Tyrolean Village. ?This is great riding with spectacular scenery of the lake and the mountains behind. ? Well worth including this one in your list of rides ?to do on your next trip to the mountains.

With tracks being developed all over the mountains, the bike boom is?definitely on.

11 celebs you didn't know served in the military

career

11 celebrities who served in the military

You've seen them on TV and at the movies, playing roles where they make you laugh, fight bad guys and sometimes even show off their bare behinds. But did you know they were veterans?

These are 11 celebrities you might not have known served in the military.

Ice T

Ice-T

While most know him now as Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola on "Law and Order: SVU," it wasn't the only time Ice-T was fighting bad guys.

Before his rap days, Tracy Marrow (Ice-T is his stage name) joined the Army's 25th Infantry Division. He served for four years before returning home, where he eventually started a successful music and acting career.

Harvey Keitel

Harvey Keitel

He's played plenty of bad guys on the big screen, but who knew the devil/dad from "Little Nicky" was a good U.S. Marine? Harvey Keitel joined the Marine Corps back when he was just 17, and he served in Lebanon during Operation Blue Bat in 1958.

Mel Brooks

Mel Brooks

"It's good to be the king," and for Americans during World War II, it was good we had this "king" on our side. Mel Brooks served as a corporal in the Army during World War II, where he was assigned to the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, he went on to earn an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony ? becoming an "EGOT-er" ? and write and direct "The Producers," about producers trying to make the musical flop "Springtime for Hitler."

Gene Hackman

Gene Hackman

Before he was "Behind Enemy Lines," on the big screen, Gene Hackman spent time in the Marines as a field radio operator and as a DJ for the Armed Forces Network. He went from the service to showbiz, earning Oscars for "The French Connection" and "Unforgiven."

Chuck Norris

Chuck Norris

Fact: Chuck Norris was in the United States Air Force. Fact: While stationed in Korea, he trained in Tang Soo Do and later created his own form of martial arts called Chun Kuk Do. Fact: When the boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. Oh, also, he's an actor who starred in the "Missing in Action" series of movies as well as "Walker, Texas Ranger."

Dennis Franz

Dennis Franz

Dennis Franz wasn't always wearing his NYPD blues. Drafted after college into the Army, he served for 11 months in Vietnam. We are guessing people liked him in uniform because Franz went on to play at least a dozen police officers before getting the role of Detective Andy Sipowicz on "NYPD Blue," earning him four Emmy Awards.

Montel Williams

Montel Williams

The motivational speaker and former talk show host, Montel Williams, enlisted in the Marines after high school, but later found his gift for public speaking while serving as a lieutenant for the Navy. He served for 22 years, leaving with the rank of lieutenant, after which he went on to win a Daytime Emmy Award and two Genesis Awards for "The Montel Williams Show."

J.R. Martinez

J.R. Martinez

J.R. Martinez is probably the one star on the list well-known for his military service. A corporal in the Army, a roadside-bomb blast burned more than 40 percent of his body while he was serving in Iraq. Even with his injuries, he was positive about his recovery and used his optimism to help other victims. He starred as an Army veteran on "All My Children" and later let his feet do the talking when he rumba'ed his way to the win on season 13 of "Dancing with the Stars."

Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby

The famous TV dad played a doctor on "The Cosby Show," but Bill Cosby also worked in medicine before his days of comedy, assigned to work with those injured in the Korean War while in the Navy. He served for four years as a hospital corpsman before going to college at Temple University and eventually pursuing a career in comedy.

Tom Selleck

Tom Selleck

Everyone's favorite mustachio played a private investigator in Hawaii and Vietnam veteran on TV, but in real life Tom Selleck was a soldier in the California Army National Guard. He was called to duty in 1965 during the Watts Riots.

Rob Riggle

Rob Riggle

Rob Riggle's joke as a correspondent on "The Daily Show" that he could "kill any other member of the show" based on his military experience isn't too far from the truth. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps and served in Kosovo and Afghanistan before moving into full-time comedy, where his characters have ranged from a man-child with a pituitary problem in "The Goods" to a man who laughed when a kid used a Taser "in the face" in "The Hangover."

Video: What to watch for during the debate

>> reporter: beginning wednesday.

>> chuck todd , part of our team in boca raton , now, beginning with our chief foreign affairs correspondent, andrea mitchell , what should people watch for tonight?

>> reporter: i think watch for new rhetoric from romney, a softening from his position on iran , there were back-channel talks between the united states and iran about talking about getting together. not yet agreed to by the ayatollah for iran , or from the united states , but the agreement of the diplomatic issues are a good thing, you may hear more rhetoric on benghazi and libya, and both candidates will talk about china quite a bit. china's impact on ohio, they're all looking towards to voters in ohio, the battleground states .

>> andrea mitchell , we don't have you home for long, given your world travel and view of the world right now, what is the most urgent and pressing issue that could come up tonight? well, i think the afghanistan troops, tens of thousands, that is very important. but the most pressing issue right now seems to be syria , the united states can no longer ignore that situation, a huge hole, so far 30,000 people killed in syria , and it is clear that that conflict is a regional war with other countries becoming involved. the bombing in beirut, many believe that syria was involved. and today, in jordan, officials say a soldier there was killed when the jordan troops clashed with the fighters crossing into syria , this is a situation that the president, whoever happens to be president will be forced to deal with.

>> richard engel in the d.c. bureau tonight, and david gregory as we said at the top of the broadcast it is probably fair to say in their worst fears or wildest dreams neither campaign would have told you a year ago this would be a dead heat , 47-47, two weeks out.

>> it is so close, brian, and there will be a lot of political signs about how to try to win over the next two weeks. but i think tonight is a 30,000 seat debate. this is about america's role in the world, we've heard from our correspondents here, we're not only a nation at war but we have is faced other threats down the line, how does america lead at home, strong in the world, about our economy and place in the world. and i think tonight the real challenge for the romney campaign, they have sort of evened things up, seen as a credible alternative, he is not going to be seen as a commander-in-chief, but the stakes are high.

>> david gregory , a reminder, our debate coverage begins 6:00, 9:00, and earlier we'll gather at 8:45 eastern, for a pre-coverage discussion with our team, only available on the web at nbcpolitics.com.

Luck's 2 TD runs enough

By MICHAEL MAROT

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 3:35 p.m. ET Oct. 21, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Andrew Luck used his quick reactions and fleet feet to beat Cleveland on Sunday.

He became the first Colts quarterback since 1988 to run for two touchdowns in the same game and won the first head-to-head matchup of this season's rookie starters, leading Indianapolis to a 17-13 victory over the Browns.

Indy (3-3) got back to .500 in its third game under interim coach Bruce Arians and now has one more win than it did all of last season. After the game, Arians told reporters that coach Chuck Pagano had been released from the hospital Sunday morning and watched the game from his home as he continues to undergo treatment for leukemia.

The biggest reason for this season's turnaround has been Luck's solid play at Lucas Oil Stadium, where Indy has won three of its four home games.

Luck finished 16 of 29 for 186 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions - the second straight week he did not throw for a score. He lost a fumble and was more efficient on the ground, running three times for 12 yards and the two scores as Indy ran for a season-high 148 yards.

Statistically speaking, Cleveland quarterback Brandon Weeden outplayed Luck.

Weeden was 25 of 41 for 264 yards with two TDs and no interceptions. But the Browns ground game went nowhere, and Josh Gordon inexplicably dropped a touchdown pass in the end zone that would have given Cleveland the lead with 6:38 left in the game.

Trent Richardson tried to play through injured rib cartilage and managed only eight yards on eight carries in the first half. He was relegated to the bench in the second half, and Cleveland wound up with only 55 yards rushing all day.

Instead, the difference was Luck's ability to run.

Following last week's dismal performance in New York, Luck made amends quickly.

He opened the game by leading the Colts on an 11-play, 80-yard drive, scoring on a 3-yard TD run.

Weeden answered with his own opening flurry on a 90-yard drive. After converting third-and-2, third-and-11, third-and-8 and third-and-13, Weeden hooked up with Greg Little, who made a juggling catch in the back of the end zone on third-and-goal from the Indy 14. The play was upheld by the replay booth. But punter Reggie Hodges dropped the ball on the hold, leaving Cleveland in a 7-6 a deficit.

Luck came back with another long drive. This time, on the final play, he rolled right, looked into the end zone, saw the coverage and sprinted toward the pylon in the front right corner for a 5-yard TD run and a 14-6 lead. It was the first time an Indy quarterback ran for two scores in the same game since Ricky Turner did it Dec. 4, 1988 against Miami. The other quarterback in franchise history to achieve the feat was Bert Jones on Oct. 20, 1974 against the Jets.

Weeden got going fast in the second half, taking six plays to hook up with Gordon on a 33-yard TD pass to make it 14-13.

Luck's answer: A 17-play, 61-yard drive to set up Adam Vinatieri for a 38-yard field goal that extended the Colts' lead to 17-13 late in the third quarter.

Cleveland got into Colts territory two more times, but Gordon dropped the touchdowns and they couldn't convert on fourth-and-6 after the 2-minute warning.

Honeywell's profit rises 10 percent, tops Wall Street view

(Reuters) - Diversified U.S. manufacturer Honeywell International Inc reported a 10 percent rise in quarterly earnings as declining natural gas prices helped boost profits at its UOP chemical arm, offsetting weakness in Europe.

The maker of aircraft electronics and building control systems said on Friday that third-quarter earnings came to $950 million, or $1.20 per share, compared with $862 million, or $1.10 per share, a year earlier.

The results came in 6 cents per share ahead of the analysts' average estimate of $1.14, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Honeywell tightened its full-year profit forecast to a range of $4.45 to $4.50 per share. Its previous outlook was $4.40 to $4.55, and analysts had expected $4.50.

"Looking ahead to 2013, we are planning for a continued challenging macro environment, but expect to deliver good growth," Chief Executive Officer Dave Cote said in a statement.

Third-quarter sales were up less than 1 percent to $9.34 billion, shy of Wall Street's $9.51 billion target. Sales rose 4 percent at the Morris Township, New Jersey-based company's aerospace arm, reflecting strength in commercial aviation, but fell 10 percent at the transportation systems unit on weak European demand for automotive turbochargers.

Honeywell shares fell 1 percent to $60.80 in premarket trading.

CDC: Detergent Pods a Major Health Hazard for Kids

There's a new warning for parents who use laundry pods about how kids are mistaking them for bright, colorful candy and eating them.

There were 1,008 cases of detergent poisoning among kids during a 30-day period this summer, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report released Thursday. Of those reported cases, 486 were linked to pods. Poison centers across the country were seeing an average of 10 cases a day, the CDC reported in May.

Ninety-four percent of poisonings from the laundry detergent pods are among kids younger than 6, according to the CDC report.

The CDC says that exposure to the detergent pods is "an emerging public health hazard in the United States."

Parents are learning just how dangerous the bite-sized, single-dose of laundry detergent pods really can be. The concentrated packet of detergent sent 1-year-old Isabella Sutton to the hospital after she ate one.

"I just figured they got into candy, and they were eating candy," Jessica Sutton, Isabella's mom, told ABC News earlier this year.

Are Laundry Detergent Packets Dangerous for Kids? Watch Video

Minutes later, Isabella had severe vomiting and diarrhea before being rushed to the emergency room. Similar reactions have been reported across the country with many children also experiencing drowsiness, nausea and potentially life-threatening symptoms such as difficulty breathing.

"You don't think about safety-proofing laundry detergent," Sutton said.

The makers of Tide detergent - Proctor & Gamble - told ABC News in May they planned to unveil new childproof packaging by the summer. The new packaging features a double-latch lid and a larger warning label on the container that some critics say looks like a candy jar.

Proctor & Gamble has distributed the new containers but never recalled the old ones. ABC News visited four stores this week and found the old easy-to-open plastic containers on shelves.

Proctor & Gamble told ABC News that it is adding an over-the-lid resealable sticker that will "gradually be available as of December in stores."

Consumers who would like to use the resealable sticker earlier can do so by calling 1-877-751-7227, beginning Nov. 1.

Henkel -- the maker of Purex Ultra Packs -- told ABC News that, since May, is has "updated the packaging with clearer labels to warn parents about the risks and to provide more specific instructions in the event of ingestion."

Other detergent manufacturers who previously told ABC News in May that they were reviewing the safety packaging did not respond to requests for an update.

Until changes are made, poison control experts say, the onus falls on the parents to keep the detergent packets locked up and out of the reach of children.

Ubisoft announces Far Cry 3 mod for MineCraft - Video Games - Digit

If you?re a Minecraft nut who just loves his (or her) mods, then Ubisoft has something pretty damn exciting to offer. Ubisoft has announced that they will be putting out a Far Cry 3 mod out for Minecraft that will also include a texture pack. What you can expect from the free pack is a brilliant fusion of Minecraft with the Far Cry 3 universe, giving you the ability to explore terrain and such in the upcoming shooter.

Every aspect of the game will get modified, including the environment, weapons and tools to reflect those from Far Cry 3.

Ubisoft has said that you will also run into Pixelated versions of characters from Far Cry 3. Ubisoft has been revealing character details as their game gets closer to launch and now that we?ve seen some of the savages and tribe members, we can?t help but wonder whether it will be these characters who are included in the mod or some totally new characters.

The mod will be available on October 26 for free on the PC and the actual Far Cry 3 game should be hitting store shelves on December 4, 2012.

Victorian Home (Style Spotlight) | AOL Real Estate

Victorian house style

By Vanessa Brunner

For most people, the term "Victorian architecture" defines a diverse but singular style. The reality is that this term encompasses several architectural house styles, all of which were used during the mid to late 19th century. The name, of course, comes from the reigning British queen at the time: Victoria.

Victorian homeowners were very social; dinner parties took place several times a week and consisted of pre- and postmeal activities. For these socialites, having a house that was impressive and built in the latest style was key. (The ornate look was soon spurned, however, by the development of new construction technology, particularly the availability of affordable wood and the ability to incorporate steel into buildings.)

Although Victorian architecture is rooted in England, it quickly spread worldwide as British architects started to emigrate to Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Eventually, improved communications in the 19th century began to inform international architects of the latest and greatest styles and trends, and the Victorian influence in houses grew.

Still, what's considered the Victorian period differs from country to country, along with the names of its architectural styles. In the United States, the Victorian style was generally popular from 1860 to 1900. San Francisco in particular is well known for its Victorian style houses. In Australia, the Victorian period is recognized as 1840 to 1890. Melbourne's world-heritage Royal Exhibition Building and Rialto Building are both good examples of classic Victorian architecture in Australia.

Many Victorian-era homes combine several different styles and features, but the following is a basic guideline for the most common Victorian architectural styles.
