Department of Mathematics and Statistics, James Madison University

The?Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University invites applications for?one or more?tenure track positions?in mathematics education?starting August 2012. Applicants should have?a?doctoral degree in mathematics education or?a?related area as well as extensive graduate coursework in mathematics and/or statistics.??Those with research interests in PreK-8 mathematics education are especially encouraged to apply, but other specialties will be considered.?Candidates should have demonstrated success in teaching and potential in scholarship and an interest in mathematics content courses for future teachers, including beginning and advanced courses for elementary and?middle grades concentrations.

James Madison University is a comprehensive, coeducational state university, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Enrollment is approximately 18000. The primary focus of the department is undergraduate teaching, with an active research program in that context. The department includes very active groups in statistics, applied and computational mathematics, pure mathematics, and mathematics education. In addition to coursework for majors, the department provides mathematics and statistics instruction for engineering, natural and social science, and a substantial program for future elementary and middle grades teachers.
